Recently, we had the opportunity to visit a company in South Yorkshire operating 6 x 400W UV-A lamps for their fluorescent inspection process.
They were understandably frustrated with the high cost and limited availability of replacement bulbs (each costing around £80 and needing replacement every 500 hours of use). These frequent replacements, combined with the lamps running 24/7, were driving their operational costs significantly higher.
The company reached out, expressing interest in our UV-A LED solutions. We arranged a visit to assess their current setup and identify a more efficient alternative tailored to their needs.

During our visit, we determined that switching to just 4 x 33W Enigma UV-A LED lamps would provide the required irradiance across the entire inspection area. Not only would this meet their operational needs, but it would also deliver substantial energy and cost savings.
To put it in perspective, the existing setup consumes around 21,000 kWh annually, costing approximately £5,256 in energy and £8,409 in replacement bulbs – totalling about £13,665 per year.
The LED alternative uses only about 290 kWh annually, costing roughly £72 in energy, with zero maintenance costs.
With an equipment investment of just under £3,000, the payback period is just under 3 months. The savings in energy and maintenance costs alone more than cover the upfront cost in a very short time.
This switch to LED not only improves reliability and reduces downtime but also delivers a rapid return on investment while cutting energy use drastically.
