Measurement and assessment of personal UV light exposure

Organisations operating UV light processes are obliged to protect workers from the health effects associated with UV light exposure and are not exposed above the statutory exposure limit values (ELVs).

Our assessment services, developed over 20 years in the industry, help organisations ensure regulatory compliance with Directive 2006/25/EC, brought into UK law under the Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010.

The Regulations require employers to:

  • Reduce exposure as low as reasonably practicable.
  • Assess personal exposure levels and compare with statutory ELVs.
  • Provide specific information and training to employees.

We work with companies across the UK and Europe, providing training, assessment and consultancy services to ensure safe use, regulatory compliance and peace of mind around UV safety.

Preliminary review and report

To help organisations check regulatory compliance and determine whether or not additional measurement and assessment is necessary.

Measurement and assessment survey and report

This comprehensive service provides organisations with the information and support required to assess the risk of UV light exposure in the workplace, and consists of a site visit to:

  • Evaluate your UV light equipment and process.
  • Assess of existing technical and administrative controls.
  • Measure personal UV light exposure at all positions where personal exposure could occur.

Following the visit, a report will be issued, which includes:

  • Executive summary covering the key findings.
  • Statement of compliance or non-compliance with each aspect of the Regulations.
  • Comparison of actual personal exposure with the statutory exposure limit values.
  • Recommendations to further reduce the risk of personal exposure.
